New in Quark License Administrator 4
Run QLA on Intel-based Mac computers
QLA 4.01 runs on Intel®-based Mac® computers. Run QLA Server and Control Panel software on both PowerPC® and Intel-based computers.
Manage XTensions licenses
In addition to monitoring QuarkXPress® and QuarkCopyDesk® licenses, QLA 4 monitors XTensions® software licenses* associated with QuarkXPress. Efficiently manage all your licenses from a single point.
* QLA manages only XTensions licenses associated with QuarkXPress. This functionality does not extend to XTensions licenses for QuarkCopyDesk.
Support FireWire networks
QLA 4 supports FireWire® networks. While downloading a QLA Server license file on Mac OS® or Windows®, you can specify the address for your FireWire Ethernet card and the default Ethernet card.
Set priority levels for error and event logging
QLA 4 introduces five levels of error and event logging. Set different levels for different errors and events according to their significance in your workflow.
Assign software licenses
QLA provides complete control over when, where, and how users access Quark products. Assign licenses to specific high-priority users, groups of users, or computers to guarantee access to Quark products. Licenses can also be held in a reserve pool and assigned to users on a first-come, first-served basis, so that occasional users will also be able to access Quark products when necessary.
Run QuarkXPress no matter what
Network failure is always a possibility, but with QLA you have several options to help keep QuarkXPress up and running throughout the duration of network or server failures.
- Emergency key launch
Through a simple key command you can run QuarkXPress for up to 120 hours without connecting to the QLA server. This provides ample time for your IT staff to rectify any network or server issues which prevent users from connecting to the QLA server. - Remote license checkout
Perform a remote license checkout for a specified duration and simply e-mail a license file, as an attachment, to a remote user. They can then use QuarkXPress for the specified duration without connecting to QLA Server. This makes it easy to generate temporary licenses for remote users and freelancers. - Automatically transition to back-up server
During installation of the QLA server, the system administrator has the ability to define a back-up server for QLA. In the event of a failure of the primary server, the back-up server will begin serving Quark product licenses. Once the primary server is active again, the files containing information about license usage will synchronize in order to prevent unauthorized use and provide an accurate reflection of usage. - Extended license check out
With extended license check-out functionality, you can check out a license for a few days up to a few years. Once a license has been checked out, QuarkXPress no longer is required to connect to the QLA server upon launch.
Install QLA with ease
The level of detail in the installation instructions about the system and associated components is such that even a person with very little knowledge of server administration can successfully complete an installation.
Track license usage
Upon the creation or modification of a license-user pool, the system administrator can define a maximum duration for software license checkout. These values can also be defined at the user level. For example, when adding a user to the pool, the system administrator can define how long that user can have a software license checked out.
Define a maximum duration for license check out
Upon the creation or modification of a license-user pool, the system administrator can define a minimum and maximum duration for software license check out. These values can also be defined at the user level. For example, when adding a user to the pool, the system administrator can define how long that user can have a software license checked out.
Restrict user access to extended check out
The system administrator can restrict or prevent certain users, pools of users, or computers from being able to use QLA's extended software license check-out functionality.
Set preferences and generate reports
The QLA control panel allows you to set preferences and generate error logs.
Flexible administration
Define up to 10 e-mail addresses for the system administrator and alert more than one person when there are problems with the QLA server. QLA also supports multiple administrators in multiple locations managing their own license pools. An administrator can restrict license pools to certain administrators based on location or other parameters.
Expanded language and OS support
QLA offers complete support for U.S. English and QuarkXPress Passport® languages.
